Pages made from nested template take long time to update
Hi!
I have a site which I have made a main template and about 10 pages that use
that template. Then I created a nested template from the main template and
made another 7 pages that use the nested template. When I save the main
template, the 10 original pages update fairly quickly, about half a second
each, but the nested template and the other 7 pages take a long time to
update, about 10 seconds each. Also, when I save the nested template, the 7
pages that use it take a long time to update. Anyone have any idea why the
pages that were made from the nested template are taking 20 times as long to
update???
Thanks!
Robert

Probably for the same reason that a page containing a complex table will
take a while to render. Nested Templates can get very complex in a very
short time.

Re: Pages made from nested template take long time to update
Well, I've ditched the nested template and I've done everything with a
single template. I would say the single template is a bit more complicated,
especially from a maintenance standpoint, but my pages update in a few
seconds rather than a few minutes now.
I put together a real basic version of what I was trying to accomplish and
it updates much faster, probably because I haven't added any behaviors to my
links and the page layout and content is much simpler, however the nested
template and its pages still take considerably longer time to update. If you
are interested in seeing it, I've posted it here:
www.web1x.com/extra/templatetest.zip
The idea is to create a nested template for each of the main sections for
navigation to the subsections of the site. I've only included a nested
template for page 2. Additional nested templates would be created for pages
3 thru 10 as applicable.
It seems strange that the nested template and its pages take many times
longer to update. I'd say at least 20 times longer! For me, it has really
defeated the purpose of being able to do nested templates. And I thought
nested templates were such a great improvement ....
