Pallettes on startup
I have Illustrator 8, Windows 2000. My question - how do I get Illustrator to open with only the pallettes I want it to? Currently transform, navigator, swatches, character, color and the stroke pallettes open everytime it starts and I only want character & color & stroke to open.
I have tried deleting the aipref files numerous times, and even deleting the startup files. I have tried opening Illustrator, closing the windows I don't want, creating and saving a new file, and then exiting, but when I start it up again - all of the pallettes are back again.
I'm having the same problem in Photoshop 7 - I cannot get the document size to default to letter size on startup.
My computer was recently upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 and all of my programs had to be installed. I'm thinking that maybe this is a problem with 2000 as I never had this problem on Windows 98.
I know in the overall scheme of life this is not a big deal - but it is driving me crazy - I'm determined to figure this out.
Can anyone help?

Fiona,

Photoshop will ALWAYS use the last size that a New document was opened as.
(So if you've done a copy followed by a CTRL+N for example, the next New
document you open will be at the size of the selection when you did that
copy)

Re: Pallettes on startup
Thanks Len for your reply on the Photoshop issue, but in answer to your question:
But did you save it as your startup.ai file in the plugins folder?
The answer is yes.
I think the problem I'm having is because I'm on a network and our IT director has blocked me from changing defaults on many of my programs. For instance everytime I change the association for .ai files to Illustrator 8, it always reverts back to Illustrator 10 after I have shut my computer down. I also can't even change the settings on my scanner at all.
I guess I just have to put up with the darn pallettes.
Thanks again
Fiona
