Panther Server + Adobe Illustrator CS

Panther server is setup in a lab to administer user accounts and provide printing to the client computers. The printer is queued via LPR and is the default LPR printer. Users have quotas and the quotas are enforced for this Queue. Now, all client computers have no problem attaching to the Queue and no problem printing from textedit, preview, acrobat 6, photoshop 7& 8, illustrator 10, Dreamweaver, etc.

What does not work is Illustrator CS and InDesign CS.

The jobs show up in the local print utility as printing then complete, but they never show up in the logs for the queue on the server, and they never print.

This applies to every user, and every admin. I have created accounts with restrictions and no restrictions, but no dice.

Any help, or confirmation of this?

By the way, I noticed that for the programs that work, the print dialog box that comes up when you initially choose print is the default Apple print dialog menu for all the apps that work, whereas InDesign and Illustrator CS have print menus designed by Adobe.

I can confirm this. My lab is also running Panther Server for LDAP and Printing services. I can print through the server with every application EXCEPT Illustrator CS and InDesign CS. It is very frustrating.

I thought it might be because I added the printers through Rendezvous, but I have tried adding it manually and with Open Directory with the exact same results. However, if I setup the machine to print directly to the printer (rather than through the print server) both InDesign and Illustrator CS work print fine.

This is what I can think of that perhaps in the Page Set up the printer is not selected, then if you hit Printer in the ID and AI CS dialogue you will see the driver you are looking for and perhaps a setting in there is printing it to perhaps a postscript or something of that nature, you haven't specified the printer or printer type.
