Passing URL Variable - Coldfusion - Advanced Techniques

I am trying to find out a special method for handling a variable passed in a URL. The first example below shows how a typical variable is entered in the URL. The second example is what I would like to use for passing the variable. I have seen this done on several Coldfusion sites. www.mydomain.com/index.cfm?id=1234 www.mydomain.com/1234 Can any one provide some help or in-site? Thanks!...

There's a small tutorial on the houseoffusion homepage
(http://www.houseoffusion.com/). Do a search in the page for "Search Engine
    Safe".

Ben Forta wrote a tag awhile back too, although I don't have the link. You
may want to search around for that. I remember the cgi variables needing to
    be tweeked a little bit.
