No, and not a good idea. Illustrator art would be better imported via File > Place.

Sometimes it is a rather nice thing to do - I think.

I have a rather completed piece of folded "thing". Some masking and
stepping is much easier done in Illustrator, but I should like to do the
some final text work in InDesign, and thought I could leave the
possibility of finetuning the images placed in masks in Illustrator to
    be finished in InDesign.

OK :-) I will leave the mask-image part for Illu and the text part for
    InDesign.
Thank you for a quick response.

I don't agree that it's not a good idea. And it all depends on your intention as to whether pasting or placing is the better course of action.

Also depends on how complicated the drawing is. In short, the fact is
    "it depends."

I have experienced that filter and effects can cause problems with
colors, but masking and more vector-specific graphic are quite robust
    when copy-pasting.
This piece is in the latter category.

Thats why I end up copy-pasting after all - just using my text element
as guidelines for placing them again in InDesign.

This comes close to what I want. Allthough I should appreciate some more
    logic layers.

Layers in InDesign are for placed objects. A whole Illy file sits on such a layer as an object.

Layers in Illustrator are more about drawing vector objects and the stacking order of them.

Hence, layers in these programs are different.

Paste Remembers layers in each program is when you copy and paste within the program; not from one program to the other.
