Pasteboard to large
I'm using Indesign 4.0.4 and noticed a problem in a particular document with the pasteboard. The pasteboard or distance between each page spread is huge so I can't simply move objects from one page to another without scrolling for ages. I would normally just open a new document and cut and paste the contents but this document is 128 pages long. I'm aware of the preference 'Guides & Pasteboard' - 'Minimum Vertical Offset' but it has no effect. I would be really grateful if someone could help me with this as I'd love to be able to move objects between pages quickly again.
Thanks,
Ryan

Re: Pasteboard to large
Tried making an interchange file but on reimporting it crashes inDesign everytime. Anyone have any other ideas?
Nina, couldn't find anything about this in the "[Perm] Frequently
Encountered Problems". Do you have a link?
Thanks,

Re: Pasteboard to large
Found it. Suggests what I've already tried, anyway.

Re: Pasteboard to large
Sorry Ryan, I did not notice that I had actually posted the answer. I
stopped as I saw that Bob answered you.
But a collegue of mine have taken great advance of the .inx advise
today. No problem at all.
On the other hand I cannot recall we have been working with that large
single documents. I collect sections using the book function.
Can you perhaps split it up in sections and see if you can locate the
problem or work around it this way. Just a thought.

Re: Pasteboard to large
We occasionally have this problem and I'm sorry to say that most of the suggested fixes on this forum have not worked for us. Check out the suggestions here, if you haven't already:

I think the best solution for us has been to drag the page "thumbnails" from the pages palette into a clean document.

Re: Pasteboard to large
This worked for me:
1. Open the document, and Save As a new version (just in case).
2. Go to File > Document Setup > More Options. Make a change to any of the Width, Height, Bleed or Slug options. Changes to the Bleed or Slug options are probably best as they can't impact on the actual document (I think).
3. Click OK and the large pasteboard disappears.
4. Whatever setting you changed, change it back.
5. Save document.
It appears to me that any change whatsoever in Document Setup (except Number of Pages) fixes whatever it was that gets corrupted and causes the large pasteboard.

Re: Pasteboard to large
I'm prety sure this helped me once: Just switching orientation, or spreads to single and back; portrait to landscape, things like that fixed it for me once.
Post back what worked.
Thanks, good luck (I hated that when it happened !)
