Pattern Brush spot color issue
I'm having an issue with the pattern brushes. When changing their color to a spot color they print out as process in my QuarkXpress document.
I created a box (which is a spot color) and made a path around the box with an applied a brush stroke pattern of a leaf. The leaf was changed to a stroke spot custom color. Then the graphic was saved as an Illustrator EPS file format.
The graphic was placed in QuarkXpress 6.1 and shows the two custom spot colors used in the file. Also checked in the color edit palatte of QuarkXpress for used colors and it shows only two colors used. I also edited the color to make sure they were indeed spot and not CMYK. My dilemma is when I print out the file in QuarkXpress, it prints as CMYK even though I have selected only two the two spot color plates to print. HELP, what am I doing wrong and has anyone run into this problem.

Re: Pattern Brush spot color issue
I'm unsure exactly how this works but I'm relatively certain that you need to expand your brush pattern into objects to have it effectively retain the spot color info.
If what I'm getting from your post is accurate, you're applying a brush to a stroke and simply selecting a spot color for the stroke color? While that would be nice to work in theory, experience has shown me it's rarely that simple.
The option is under Object -> Expand Appearance.
I'm admittedly speaking from my wind tunnel here as I know little about Quark's uhm.....quarks, but I think it's worth trying.
