We just upgraded the company server from NT 4.0 to 2000....the consultant my
CEO uses said do NOT migrate to XP....he recommended NT 5.0/2000 as it was "the
best of the lot." He then stated that it would drop our crashes from once a
day to once a week (Compaq server, 22 WinTel workstations, all running 98se,
and my Mac). I asked for that in WRITING! He just laughed.

A friend just had their site moved to the new Mac servers....picture frame
company in NC, don't recall the site at present....went up a month ago, my
friend said that he has been getting to sleep at night now instead of working
on the old WinTel server problems!

Do you really want to try that argument, considering how much of Apple's
past software was not made it into the current OS X?

Good ol' foo. Can always be counted upon to appologize for every Windows
shortcoming by helpfully troubleshooting the problem in such a way as to
push the problem off onto the user and away from Windows.

    Of course.

Nah. He normally posts from the mail room with an IP address like
205.254.241.49. Sometimes he posts with an IP address like 207.71.213.40 like he
has been recently. The boss is probably out of town and Winnie gets his chance
to sit at the boss's desk in the big office and use the computer.

Same ISP I have always been with. You're wrong as usual.

Nowhere have I disagreed with you that they have the capability; you
questioned why I said the capability lacks "official support".

So, I turn around and ask you -- tell me where in the system
doentation I can find info on how to use DVD-RW discs.

Tell me where anything *from Apple* describes the Superdrive as a DVD-RW
or anything other than a DVD-R.

It's not there: they are not officially supported, as I said.

That's actually a good point - it is interesting that this is true for
my Zip disks as well. In OS 9, I used to be able to erase disks from a
Finder menu, or a contextual menu. I hope this comes back to the new
Finder in Panther. It is there in PathFinder. I understand Apple doesn't
want to make it too easy for people to erase their media, but there's
also no reason to make it too hard.

Actually, I just found -- on a French site -- that this feature was
quietly added to iDVD 3. It isn't in iDVD 2, and I defy you to find it
in the official iDVD doentation. Tell me where in the doentation
it explains how to use DVD-RW in iDVD.

Which returns me to my comment about "official support".
