PDF File size? Please Help
I am hoping that someone here will help me out. I recently created a 128 page catalog (in InDesign)where I work. The section were created in their own separate files. The problem I have is when I make a PDF to hang on our web server for customers to download the smallest file size I can get is 2.2 MB for 4 pages. Last year the same section still only 4 pages was reduced to less than a 1MB by the girl who had my position then. There really is no difference other than this years catalog uses native PSD and AI files, last years did not. Does InDesign do something to bloat the file size? For some reason I cannot ever get document sizes down.
What do I need to do to get the file size smaller. I am always seeing PDFs from other companies where a multiple page file is below a MB for some reason I can never get below at most a 1.5MB file.
I have created straight from InDesign (CS2) and through Distiller (6.0.2). used standard presets and tried my own even reducing resolution to 72dpi (or ppi which ever one you like)
Please help
(I also posted this in InDesign Forum)

Re: PDF File size? Please Help
Hello,
Under the Print menu in Indesign, create a postcript file with lores settings.
Select the smallest file size distiller joboption.
Select Settings > Adobe PDF Settings > Advanced > (and make sure to deselect the checkmark "Allow postcript to override PDF settings".
Do as Save As of the new profile and distill the postcript.
Good Luck

Re: PDF File size? Please Help
Creation of a PDF through Postscript from InDesign is a VERY LOSSY operation and is NOT recommend is most instances.
Please use the Export command in the File menu to create your PDFs. That's why it's there.
