PDF files prints black & white if there is gradient created in Illustrator
I had sent a PDF file with gradient created in Illustrator. All gradients are created with simple 4 colour (CMYK). But our supplier says any gradients created in illustrator file will not print correctly from pdf file. For that they suggest to create the gradient in photoshop and link in illustrator file. Is this true? Is this problem could be because of the kind of RIP they use to print positives (Postscript level compatibility?)
Thanks

Re: PDF files prints black & white if there is gradient created in Illustrator
There is no specific problem with gradients. However, it sounds as if
their equipment, software or workflow may be out of date. If they
aren't prepared to deal with the problems at their end, you may have
to do what they suggest. Refusal to consider fixing buggy software is
more common than you might think.

Re: PDF files prints black & white if there is gradient created in Illustrator
Have you solved any issues here? My husband's work just bought a Konica printer, which like $60K This printer isn't processing right, colors blotchy, dull and saturated in some places, gradients banding, vector graphics are sort wavey around edgy, and ghosting around text is happening.
The printer technician came out and said that it was a problem creating gradients and graphics for print in Illustrator and told us to create ours in Photoshop???
How do we get the printer people to give the right on-site support?
Does Illustrator print Gradients made from process colors ok?

Re: PDF files prints black & white if there is gradient created in Illustrator
Yes it will print differently. To my knowledge manly due to clipping that will occur from shadows and gradients. Photoshop can handle all that stuff a lot better while Illustrator sucks at it. All you have to do is save any illustrator file as an Illustrator eps. Then open that up in photoshop, flatten it and then save it as a photshop eps. I print signs that go all around the US and this is what I do.
