Default pdf files uploaded onto a web site won't open correctly.

I'm currently building a web site for a construction company. There are some forms/documents that they want clients to be able to download. These forms were emailed to me in pdf format. I have no problem opening them directly from my computer. However, when I upload them to the server and click on the links to the forms, they basically open blank documents. I even tried converting the original Word documents using the Create Adobe PDF Online service, but I had the same problem. One of the error messages I got was "Illegal operation 'TJ' outside text object". Am I missing something? Is there something else that needs to be done? I'm pretty sure I have the links to the pdf files right. I have absolutely no idea what to do.

Are you using web viewer plugin in FireFox,SeaMonkey? IF so people must depend upon a third Party web viewer from a Fellow in Germany Schubert's PDF Plugin.

I've noticed on one PDF that was very large, on a Mac using OSX.3.9; that it opens with squares and gibberish characters substituting for the text is there. Some text comes over fine. Previous PDF's from the same author have come across fine This was using either FireFox or SeaMonkey. I'm not going to change my browsers of choice just for this one PDF. So its possible your internal viewer has a problem.

If it with Acrobat it could be how the PDF was originally created. You not using Acrobat 6 BTW?

Did you upload the files as binary or ascii?

pjones - I've tried viewing them in Safari, Firefox, and Netscape and none of them work.

MarkATS - I don't really know if they're binary or ascii. How do I figure that out, and which one should be used? Thanks.

what ftp software are you using to upload to your web site? You should upload them as binary files.

I figured it out. I was using the Fetch FTP program, so I uploaded them using Dreamweaver, which is what I used to design the site, and that fixed the problem.

    Thanks for your help.
