I'm converting a pdf to postscript and then back to pdf (don't ask why

This works fine when the document contains base fonts. however most of the documents contains an OCR-B font (PSowstocrb.) The original pdf is fine, specifically it's searchable. The postscript file also displays fine and contains the text (when e.g. opening in GhostView etc.)

After distilling however, the pdf still looks fine but is not searchable anymore. text is selectable, but copy/paste results in control characters. Searching is not possible.

The original pdf has the fonts embedded as (I'm not sure how the german 'Mitgeliefert' (included) translates to the english version):

PSOwstocrb Type 1 (Encoding) included Embedded Subset Type 1

The distilled pdf has similar but slightly different information (again, I'm not sure what the english version says for 'Benutzerdefiniert' - user defined):

PSOwstocrb Type 1 (Encoding) user-defined Embedded Subset Type 1

Does anybody have an idea?
