    Default PDF Hyperlinks to files

Does InDesign provide ability to create a hyperlink to an external file (a Word Doc), so that the pdf file generated links correctly? The help file only seems to allow for links to other pdf pages/files or to web addresses.
    Thanks,

Default Re: PDF Hyperlinks to files

You can't do it with a hyperlink, but you can do it with a button.

You need to create a button with the Button tool. Double-click to set the behavior by clicking on the Behaviors tab. On Mouse Up, choose the Behavior to be Open File. Browse to select your file. In the Enable popup menu at the top of the dialog box, select All Documents instead of Acrobat Format File. After selecting the file, you'll see the file path. Don't forget to click Add. Then the list on the left will show Mouse Up > Open File.

To create the PDF, you must choose File > Export > Adobe PDF. Be sure to check Include Interactive Elements.
