PDF in web browser
Ever since I installed Acrobat 7 (Pro) it keeps wanting to make itself handle pdfs in my web browser (Safari). I have unchecked the preference in Acrobat (Category-->Internet-->Display PDF in browser using: Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional), multiple times. Then the next time I click on a pdf link on a web page the pdf plugin loads and the page displays in the browser. I go back to Acrobat's preferences and it has checked the box to display PDF in browser again!
Usually I DON'T WANT to view a pdf in my browser. I prefer to download it and view it in Acrobat or Preview, at my leisure, not wait for the plugin to load and look at it in a browser which was never actually designed to view pdfs in the first place.
Does anyone know how to turn off this feature permanently? I never had this problem w/Acrobat 6.
Thanks for any help.

Re: PDF in web browser
You could manually remove the plug-in from /Library/Internet Plugins/
Not 100% sure if it comes back automatically (it will if you perform a
DETECT AND REPAIR) ....

Re: PDF in web browser
First:
Go into Acrobat and or Reader (if you have both open both go to Help menu then Detect and Repair and uncheck Adobe PDF Plugin.
Quit each in turn .
Then:
If you remove the plugin from either 1) Library > Internet Plugins (where it should be). Or In 2) Username > Library > Internet Plugins.(in some cases Both).
Then the pdf will have to be either downloaded or will open either Preview, Acrobat, or Reader. In most case rather than simply downloading the PDF it will open Acrobat or Reader at the same time which is a huge resource hog and actually worse than using the Browser plugin.
I know from my own experience that Acrobat 7 on my G4-500 with 1.5 GB system RAM takes as long as up to 2 minutes to completely load all its parts. The main menu comes up fairly quickly but the Spinning Pizza wheel comes and goes off an on for at least two minutes. It does similar on my G4-1.67GB PowerBook 17" as well. So far Acro 8 openes like greased lightning.

Re: PDF in web browser
Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately, I find no pdf plugin in either library folder. Spotlight doesn't find one anywhere on the machine.

Re: PDF in web browser
Its will be in a Folder called "Internet Plug-ins" within the Library(ies). If its is not I don't Know where to tell you its located. Its possible That Safari is opening it directly through use of Preview.
I use safari as little as possible opting for FireFox or SeaMonkey instead.
