Default PDF watermarks and batch process workflow question...CS3

I'm going to be selling some sheet music as downloadable "softgoods" PDFs. I'd like to be able to offer part of the first page of each file as a sample. My thought is that it would have a watermark that says "SAMPLE," but that it would also look as though it had one corner of the page torn off.I know that this can be done nicely using the watermark feature. However, it doesn't appear that you can do both text and an image in a single operation. Also, I have hundreds of pages to create so I'm looking at Batch processing.

1) Is there a way of deleting all pages except page 1 in a batch process?

2) Is there a way to append something (like "_sample") onto file names, also as a batch?

Any comments welcome.

Thanks - JAY

Jay,

Have you tried it for yourself?

Jon-

These files will be of varying page lengths. Do you know of a way to delete a range of pages that does not specifically identify the correct number of the last page? When I try to delete all but the first page of a document in a generalized way, (pages 1 to 20 of a PDF that has only 3 pages, for instance), Acrobat makes me enter the correct number of the last page. So, yes, I've tried that.

How about a way of renaming the document "Song.pdf" as "Song_sample.pdf"? The only way I know of doing this is to perform a "Save As" and then type the new characters into the file name. So, yes, Jon, I've tried this, too.

As well as I understand it, neither of these methods could be included in an "automated" batch process because they require individualized keystrokes. Perhaps there's no way to do it. I thought someone on this forum might know a trick or perhaps whether it is possible with a different version of Acrobat. I have 8.1.2.

OK - it's possible within javascript but getting hold of a JS programmer
to perform this task might be a little fiddly.

I know an application called Enfocus Pitstop Server (www.enfocus.com)
which can perform exactly your requirement - a 30-day trial is available.

Cost - about $3,500 expensive? Depends upon how much profit you make on
the music ;-)

PS - other forum regulars might have other ideas?
