EPS files are intended to be placed on a page in a page-layout
program, and thus contain no page orientation or page size
information. If you are going to use EPS for this, you need to open
Distiller and set the size of the default page. This is found on the
'Job Options', 'Advanced' tab.

You could also print the FreeHand file to disk (*.prn) using an
appropriate printer driver, (this puts page orientation/size tags in
the file) then distill that file.
