PDF wont open in InDesign CS2
HI -
I am on CS2 and trying to open up pdfs in InDesign (I didnt buy CS2 with Acrobat and Distiller because you can do all of that in InDesign). So, I am just trying to open up small pdf files and they wont open. It's giving me a message that it's not a supported file format for InDesign, but I have done it at other computer's at work (i am an art director for an ad agency).
Any insight? Do I need a driver or something? Any insight is appreciated.
cheers.

You don't open a PDF, you place it.
And no, it's not editable.

Did you read Bob's message?
You cannot and never have been able to open PDFs in InDesign. You can Place them in new or existing documents.

No you haven't. I'm afraid your memory is bit foggy.
Please re-read my original post.

Although if you need to rasterize it, I don't know of anything wrong with "opening" it in Photoshop.

Re: PDF wont open in InDesign CS2
The truth is the only program that can really open a PDF is Acrobat. Any
other program will be converting that PDF to it's native format.
Conversion of course always carry some risk of lost data.
The exceptions of course, are Photoshop and Illustrator PDFs that were
actually saved using those programs with editing capabilities which in
effect really saves two files in one.

I've never experienced a case in which Photoshop failed to properly render a "kosher" non-Photoshop PDF as a raster image. Have you?

Re: PDF wont open in InDesign CS2
I think you missed my point, Peter. Once you open it in Photoshop, it's
not really a PDF anymore.

Agreed. But if you want/need to rasterize a PDF, "opening" in Photoshop is a reliable way to do so, whereas opening in Illustrator can lead to various problems - at least that's been my experience.

So too is saving it as a TIF from Acrobat.

And you managed to fool someone in to hiring you as an art director. Seems you do not even know what programs are used for.
