PDF Writer will not install on Acrobat Standard 6.0

After upgrading a windows 98 machine with Acrobat standard 6.0 to Windows 2000, the PDF writer (printer) no longer worked. A complete re-install of Adobe standard 6.0 was attempted but with 2 seconds to go on the install it errored "Cannot open port for PDF writer, PDF writer may not be available". Everything else works OK after this but no PDF printer. Complete un-install and re-install, this time removing all leftover Adobe registry keys that could be easily spotted, same results, same error.

PDF Writer is obsolete and is not present in any kind of Acrobat 6 installation.

You should have an Adobe PDF printer pesent - that is a much better tool for creating PDF. This is the Acrobat Distiller printer from 5 under a different name.

You don't quote your exact error message but this may be the correct one.

I am afraid upgrading one OS top another is always likely to lead to major problems - a complete fresh install of the new OS would have probably have been a much better path to follow.

That's the message Arthur, thanks for having a look.
I'll see if I can resolve my problem with the help of the article.
OS was upgraded because I'm doing about 120 of them unfortunatley.
