PDF/X-1a compliance errors
Acrobat Pro 6, Quark 6.1, OSX 10.3.4
I've distilled over 300 pages of a catalog and have worked out all the errors I've found so far, mostly images out of compliance in some way, but now...
I have a 43 page document, all text, no images. It all distilled fine, or so I thought. A closer look revealed that 1 page in the middle of the document, identical in every way to every other page except the content of the text itself, failed with the following error:
[Violation] Annotations were found inside the BleedBox, TrimBox, or ArtBox
I've been through all the forum docs, the knowledgebase, the help files, and I can't find any troubleshooting info that identifies error messages.
Am I missing something? Any clues? 347 pages ready to go to press... Deadline looming...

Re: PDF/X-1a compliance errors
Louise,
as the error message states PDF/X-1a doesn't permit annotations inside of the TrimBox. So somewehere there must be an annotation inside of the page. The preflight error should normally state on which page this happens.
It's weird because the Distiller doesn't generate annotations. Are you sure that nobody added this annotation afterwards?
Normally an annotation is not a problem because it will not print in the most workflows. So your files may be OK to print. But it's better to remove it, you'll never.

Re: PDF/X-1a compliance errors
No, there is really no annotation on the page. There are 3 text boxes, 1 with the page number, one with the section id, one with the text. There is 1 no content box, a bleeding color bar along the side of the page. All these boxes are generated from the master page, and only the box with the text on it differs in any way from any other page in the 43 page document. There is nothing anywhere else, on the pasteboard or margins, nothing hiding. I'm the only one who has handled this file. It's got to be a false error, because there isn't anything to generate an annotation, or it would be in every page. I have distilled the pages individually as my printer requested, so there is only one page. However, the error message cites "occurences: 5" so it's saying there are 5 annotations. I'm distilling the page with registration, but that generates 6 instances, not 5.

Re: PDF/X-1a compliance errors
Perhaps you could post the PDF somewhere, e.g. on your web site, so
others could take a look and see whether there are any annotations.
