Default PDFMaker in Word 2000 on Windows XP not working

I am trying to convert my Word 2000 file to a PDF file
using PDFMaker so that my links, etc., will be useful in
Acrobat. However, none of the menu selections
under "Acrobat" and neither of the Acrobat tool buttons
respond when I click on them.

    Any suggestions?

    I appreciate the help.

What version of Acrobat do you have installed? There are a couple of techdocs that describe debugging procedures for PDFMaker. This one is for Acrobat 5:
    <http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/2b326.htm>

which I assume from your description of the "Acrobat" menu.

Is it the case that when you click on Acrobat you don't get a drop down list including Change Conversion Settings, or View Results in Acrobat, or the two buttons you have in the toolbar of Word.

What happens if you print to the Acrobat Distiller printer?

If you check out Start>Settings>Printers, select your Acrobat Distiller printer and Click File>Properties and choos theh Ports TAB. What Port is your Acrobat Distiller Printer connected to? PDF Port? If so what's the directory specified by the PDF Port?

Go to your PDF Port destination directory and check if there are any PDFs in there that have been generated recently.

Yes, I have Acrobat 5.0 installed.

I do get a dropdown list when I click on "Adobe" in Word; however, none of them respond when I click on them.

I am able to print to Distiller and that's how I usually create PDF files from Word. This particular document I'm working on has many links, internal and external to the document, and I need them to be useable in the PDF version. That's why I was trying to use the PDFMaker.

Distiller is set to the PDF Port. The only PDF files generated on this computer have been through using the Distiller function.

Anymore suggestions? Could it be that something in Word was not installed correctly?

    Thank you,
    Robin

Given that Adobe have produced a troubleshooting document for the PDFMaker macro (referenced in my first post) I would assume that difficulties with PDFMaker are not unknown. What happens when you try the solutions proposed in the Adobe Technical document.

If there's no solution that works for you in the Adobe technical document the next stage is to ensure that you have updated your Acrobat to 5.05 upgrade, and then try a reinstall to see if that works.
