perspective enviroment
Hi people, Just wondering if there is some kind of way of getting a perspective grid illustrator similar to the perspective grid found in illustrator.
I am working on an illustration and being able to position elements based on a perspective grid would be great.
Why has illustrator not added such a feature since it appeared in Freehand? I don't wanna switch to Macromedia but I really need this feature.
Anyone?

It is a feature request and the 3D is a new effect in AI so patience.

Re: perspective enviroment
Way back in Ill.7 windows and even Ill.4 there's a perspective grid. The grid in Freehand is kind of basic. Freehand flattens the image against the grid and does not duplicate and scale the image to the VP. In the Ill. grid I have used place the image, click the vanishing point on the horizon line and click some other stuff and you get perfect scale copies to the VP. Now, I haven't used it in a while, can you tell? but some beautiful work is possible.

???
After attaching objects to any plane of FH's Perspective Grid, you can alt/opt drag copies of the object, position them at will, and they automatically conform to the perspective.
"In the Ill. grid I have used place the image, click the vanishing point on the horizon line and click some other stuff and you get perfect scale copies to the VP."
If there was some kind of perspective feature in legacy versions of AI more elaborate than that of the present Perspective distortion capability of the Free Transform tool, I'd like to hear more about it. Can you describe in more detail what you remember about how it worked?

Re: perspective enviroment
I have to dig around in the garage for the old manuals, back soon with the details. Check the old Ill 4 Beyond the Basics. I never had much luck with FH 8 or 9 perspective grid. Now I have my own grid in Painter 7.

I believe the Perspective Grid was added in version 9. There is alot of "live" functionality there that's easily missed on a cursory look-see.
Speaking of missing things, I'm afraid I was completely unaware that there was ever anything comparable in an earlier version of AI. Waiting with great curiosity to hear more.
