Photoshop 6

When I go to Scan something in Photoshop 6 in the Classic environment
I select File>Import>HP PrecisionScan Pro ...

and it shuts down Photoshop without a message.

I've repeated the process a few times and it does again and again.

Any ideas?

Classic and scanning seem to be problematic no matter what brand of scanner.

If you are going to use OSX it is best to upgrade your software to use OSX native versions.

Also I found scanning separately in Vuescan from <http://www.hamrick.com> is best.

Ramón, do you work for Epson? :-)

I have a venerable DeskJet 970cxi which has served me well over the last 4 years in Mac OS 9 and X. I've always thought that HP's printer driver software was more Mac-like and logical than Epson's.

No, I don't work for Epson or any other corporation. I think there are many fine printers made by a variety of manufacturers. I'm not holding Epson up as an ideal; indeed my experience with Epson has only happened in the last three years or so.

HP's software, whether for their printers, scanners or cameras has always been very problematic on the Mac. If you scan the discussions at the Apple boards and these Adobe forums, you'll see that about 95% of the problems Mac users have with printers are with HP printers. To a lesser degree, this applies to HP scanners and digital cameras too. Throughout the last 15 years, I have personally bought two HP printers and one HP scanner. I returned all three of those devices for a full refund within three weeks of the purchase date. One of the drivers even conflicted with other extensions.

I have the highest regards for HP's oscilloscopes, meters and medical testing devices. It's just their Mac software that is a major headache.

The PostScript emulation in HP's printers (HP is too cheap to pay Adobe royalties for true PostScript) is a constant source of headaches for the IT department at my place of work (that's my day job, not a private corporation but a government agency) and their numbers are very substantial. They choke on many PDF files that my old Apple LaserWriter II NT churns out without a hitch.

And HP's customer support and Mac tech support is nothing short of disgraceful.
