Photoshop CS
In PhotoshopCS, after I batch renamed photos (downloaded using PhotoshopCS from a Nikon digital camera), the files became unopenable (in any software)! They are now just 'Documents' with a blank, folded corner, document icon. How can I get them back to a usable file type?

Re: Photoshop CS
When you upload image files from any source allways save them to your hard drive first then burn them to CD or DVD so you have a backup of the original files. then when you open and manipulate the image save it as another name so as not to destroy the original.
Your files maybe screwed for good. If you resaved to the camera.
you might try putting the names back to what they were or at least putting the original file extension back.

Re: Photoshop CS

Which methods have you tried to open them (double-click, drag-drop, PS File->Open, PS File Browser)? What error message, if any, do you get?
Have you tried drag-dropping them on to the Preview application?

Re: Photoshop CS
JK,
You only need the (legitimate) serial number from 5.5 and the serial number for your upgrade package to install it. You don't have to have any previous version installed.

Re: Photoshop CS
Buko I think that is what they meant. They want to know if they own 5.5 will they be able to purchase the upgrade and will that work. The answer is yes!
Go ahead and buy the upgrade, but you must have OS 10.2.4 or greater install it does not run in previous operating system.
I love the way you misunderstand things Buko you are a master.
Especially the way you insult people who are asking perfectly innocent questions.
An absolute master! Keep up the good work.

Re: Photoshop CS
I think Wade is right. The original post says «update software», rather than Software Update. Some folks think an "upgrade" version only modifies of complements an existing Photoshop installation rather than installing the whole new version and don't realize that only the serial number is required, whether you input it manually or the installer finds it in the previously installed earlier version.

Re: Photoshop CS
The original post says «update software»
and I understand that to mean using the update feature built in to photoshop.

If that's the case, your answer was right from the start, Buko.

Re: Photoshop CS
So what is the answer to upgrading from 5.5 to CS, yes or no? Does anybody have first hand experience in purchasing the upgrade and successfully installing it? I would really like to know. I would like to the exact same thing.

Re: Photoshop CS
So what is the answer to upgrading from 5.5 to CS, yes or no?
yes, you can update from 5.5 to CS but you must buy it from Adobe or a retailer.
No you can't do it using software update feature in Photoshop.
this was made perfectly clear a number of times just in this thread.

Re: Photoshop CS
Mark,
If you purchase an upgrade, you definitely can install it. All you need is the two Photoshop serial numbers , that of the upgrade and that of the old version. You do not have to have the previous version installed at all, but if you do have it, the installer will just read the old serial number automatically. If the previous version is not installed, then the upgrade installer will simply ask you to input that old serial number manually too, along with the new serial number for the upgrade..
That has always been the answer. Simple.
Confusion arose only as to what the original poster meant when he posted his query. It's not clear whether he wanted to accomplish the whole updating process not by buying an upgrade but by letting the software check online for the update. That's what some of us were wondering.
