photoshop photo question

I am a beginner at photoshop. I just opened a photo in photoshop, and I noticed that there is a large shadow to the side of the person. I looked over the photoshop help book and your forum but can't seem to find out what to do.

I need to delete this shadow, any advice?

I did, and I went through the process. My photo looks great, however still has the outer shadow. Do you have any advice on getting rid of the outer shadow?

An actual shadow of a person or object? (as opposed to shadows ON the person or object?)

You'll probably need the clone tool and or healing brush.

The shadow is of the person in the photo. The shadow is not ON the person. Hope that helps. Thanks for getting back to me so quick.

Perhaps you need to define "outer" shadow. Do you mean cast shadow? I think your answer might lie in a mix of quickmask, feathering, and perhaps the clone tool (or healing tool). But can you explain "outer shadow" more?

Also, please post on the same threads you started. It's completely fine to post back "hey that didn't work," but it is less acceptable to open multiple threads on the same subject. Just a hint on keeping the natives happy (to partially steal a phrase from Len).

I hope I am replying to this discussion - I am typing in the "reply to this discussion" box.

I am not that familiar with taking pics and photoshop in general. I can do the basic stuff in photoshop. There is a shadow - pretty much a solid color to the side of the face of the person in the photo. I don't know if this is a cast shadow or not. I apologize if I am not being clear.

You might also try using the Dodge tool to lighten the shadows. However, if the shadow is really a solid as you say (no detail in the shadows?), then the Dodge tool will not be much help.

If the background is unimportant, you could also try extracting the person and copying and pasting it agaist a background (new layer) you create. There are lots of ways to do this:
Extract
Quick Mask
Erase background
Etc.
