Photoshop Won't Open Illustrator Files? Why?

I have several Illustrator 9 files that I can't seem to open with Photoshop 6.0. In the past this hasn't been a problem so I'm wondering what would make this an issue now? It gives me an error message saying that PS doesn't recognize the file type but when I highlight the files I'm trying to open they are clearly listed as AI files. Any suggestions for a solution or a workaround? Thanks in advance for any assistance rendered.

I would check the options that you used when saving the files.

Try saving them as EPS or try drag 'n drop from Illustrator
