Default Pixelated eps logo on Macs/PC

Here's the work flow: Created a logo in Illustrator 10 > saved as Illu. 8.0 eps > Placed in Quark > Distilled using default screen job (all in OS9)

Resulting pdf displays everything OK apart from the logo.
The logo is: OK on WinXP, Pixelated on Win95, OK on Mac OS9, Pixelated on OS10

Any ideas?? I've tried everything I can possibly think of: isolated the logo from the doc, saved the quark page as eps > open that eps in Illu. > save as pdf. Opened the logo in Freehand and resaved as eps > Quark > distiller...

    Same thing, can anyone help?

Compare the specific versions of Acrobat/Reader in which the problem
happens. What are they (on each OS that you quote)?

    Is this a vector logo?

Thanks, I've found the answer by reading other topics. Preferences > Display > Smoothing!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe Acrobat is not installed with this option checked by default!!!!
Does Adobe believe that users would prefer a pixelated logo upon a smooth one?

Thanks anyway for taking the time to reply....

Not all items are improved by smoothing. Some are harmed, so it's hard
to say what the default should be.

Consider a very narrow black line on a light grey background. The
effect of smoothing a narrow black line is to give turn it into a
light grey line. It can then vanish entirely against the background.
