placed jpeg image rotates 180 degrees - Adobe Illustrator Windows

I am new to Illustrator, coming over from Corel Draw - I am using CS for Windows. I have encountered a bizarre problem that I can't figure out and can't seem to find any help for - I'm hoping someone else has encountered this and can point to a simple solution. Default placed jpeg image rotates 180 degrees

I am new to Illustrator, coming over from Corel Draw - I am using CS for Windows. I have encountered a bizarre problem that I can't figure out and can't seem to find any help for - I'm hoping someone else has encountered this and can point to a simple solution.

When I place a JPEG image in a Illustrator file it is very small and it is upside down (rotated 180 degrees). Once I resize the image and rotate it everything looks fine. If I save the file and close it, then re-open it later the JPEG image has rotated 180 degrees from how it looked when I saved it! Any ideas as to what's causing this?

Dennis, have you tried deleting the AIPrefs with Illy closed?

I have a similar issue. JPEGs I place in Illustrator are rotated 360 degrees. Ditching AIPREFS did not make a difference.
