Default Placing an image in a Tab Fixed format without messing up the format??

I will do my best to explain the problem.

First of all, this is an XP machine and I am using CS InDesign (the version of InDesign that one can convert Pagemaker files to InDesign files.)

Basically what I am working on is a brochure for a rental company. Next to (on the left side of) any items that need to be delivered, there is a small graphic image of a truck. This has been the graphic used for years. But when I place it next to the text, where there are tabs working, the text gets moved to the next tab space. (Layering with the arrange command, ie: putting the truck graphic in the front OR the back makes no difference.)

Long ago this brochure was done in Word (97?). However, the truck graphic apparently is from Claris or some similar program (from one of about 12 CDs filled with various graphics/clipart). This truck is NOT from Word. The brochure was then at some point transferred to
Pagemaker 6.5. (We have 7.0, but our printer did not, so we had to stick with 6.5.) I have been working on the various versions of this brochure since it has been in Pagemaker format. Recently we have transferred the entire thing to InDesign. The problem is that the nice little truck graphic has this very annoying box around it. So, I adjusted this truch in Photoshop and placed the image again. Now as mentioned, the image moves the text! When I move any OTHER images around or place other pictures, this does NOT happen. Only with the truck. Not sure why as I am placing the image the same way I always do, it is saved as a TIF. This is maddening. Murphy's Law. Anyway, if anyone has ideas of what I should be doing or why this is not working, let me know. Perhaps I will have to settle for trucks that have boxes around them, but I hope not. I will share what I learn from you with my co-worker who worked on the original brochure when it was once in Word and the early Pagemaker stages of it.

Check to be sure the graphic doesn't have text wrap applied; check both the
graphic itself (using the direct-select tool, the white arrow) and the
    bounding box.

"Check to be sure the graphic doesn't have text wrap applied."

Thank you Peggy! I have to ask though, what specifically does this mean, and how can I tell if text wrap is/is not applied?

    Thanks!

It sounds like you may be placing the graphic as an in-line, rather
than in its own frame. Make sure that the text tool is not active and
nothing is selected when you place the graphic.

Just double checked and I don't think that is the issue. The text tool was not active and nothing else was selected. Again, this only happens with the truck graphic, and only the new ones without the boxes around them. Thank you though for the suggestion! Hmmm, what in the world?

The text wrap palette opens with ctrl-alt-w. From the help file: "When you
apply a text wrap to an object, InDesign automatically creates a boundary
around the object that repels text." If any of the boxes except the first
one in the palette are highlighted, text wrap has been applied.

Actually, I assumed it _was_ an in-line graphic, as that is how I handle
    that type of iconic image.

    Peggy and Guy,

Thank you for all of your help! I just fixed it. It was the text wrap thing. I have to select the text, then go to "Object", "Text Frame Options" and click on the box "Ignore Text Wrap". Then of course I had to make sure the text and nothing else was selected before placing the object/picture.

Thank you so much for helping me figure this out!
