Default Placing an image into PhotoShop

    Help,
I am trying to place an image that has been created using Illustrator 10 into Photoshop 7. For some reason, upon placement, the image is reduced by about 25% and I have to re-size it in Photoshop. Anybody know why this happens? What am I doing wrong?
    Help appreciated

    Daran,

The size the placed file will come in as is entirely dependent upon the ppi
of the open Photoshop file into which you are placing the Illustrator file.

To demonstrate, create two new Photoshop documents each at say 720 px by 720
px, one at 72 ppi and one at 300 ppi.

Now place a small (say 3" by 1" ) Illustrator image into each. In the 72 ppi
file the placed image will come in at around 200 px by 70 px, whereas the
300 ppi one will fill the full 720 px width of the file.

OK, but shouldn't the image still be 3" x 1" (just with a different amount of pixels)?

    Daran,

It will (assuming the open Photoshop document is large enough)

Ahh, I think the penny has dropped.
Although I am well aware that it doesn't, I think that i was subconsciously expecting a pixel to remain at a fixed size and was therefore confused by the fact that my canvas (although containing the same number of pixel space) was in fact a larger size when created at a lower ppi.
    I think?
