Default Placing .psd's in IDCS for pdf output (for press)

    Hi Guys

I was wondering with indesign CS if I place the psd's directly instead of saving them to tiff or eps and then after placing all the psd images in the indesign document I output the entire document to pdf to send to press will all the vector and font data be in the final pdf? Basically what im saying is will the final pdf have the psd images font and vector data embeded?

    Thanks In Advance

No. You'll need to save as Photoshop PDF in Photoshop and place that
    instead of the PSD.

    Bob.

Are you saying that it's not safe to place a .PSD in an InDesign document
because a resultant .PDF will be missing essential data??

He asked if the PSD would retain the vector and text data when the ID
file is exported to PDF. The answer is no, it won't. The only way to
retain that is to save as PDF, PDP, or EPS.

I don't like EPS because it flattens everything and doesn't retain
    transpareny. PDF and PDP do.

FYI, using the PDF extension allows you to use edit oringal and have the
    PDF open in Photoshop.

BTW, there was a very long discussion about this on the Blueworld ID mailing list.

    Thanks Bob.

I'm not particularly conversant with the PSD format. I normally save
everything I do in Photoshop (Elements I confess) as TIFF. But there have
often recommendations, or at least strong suggestions, here to place an
    original PSD.
My use of Photoshop is pretty well exclusively in manipulating raster
graphics so the caveats you mention don't apply. But a good thing to bear in
    mind for the furture.
