Default placing .tiff file in a .eps document

I'm using Illustrator 10.0.3 and had always used the "place" command to place .tiff files into a document. I had to reinstall Illustrator and when I did I can no longer place .tiff files into the .eps document. What did I do? What can I do? Help!
    Thanks,

    Jan,

When you say you can't view a TIFF in an EPS, what are you trying to see it in? Remember that EPS is a PRINT only format for those programs that don't have a screen convert utility (like Illustrator). Thus all you see from any EPS in other than those programs will be a poor TIF replica of the vector image with or without a raster image in it. But, although I no longer have version 10 on my system, TIF will place into an Illustrator CS layout and save to EPS without a problem and view as it should in Illustrator as well.As I recall it worked the same in version 10.0,3

Under the "File" menu I click on "Place". This opens up the Place/Explorer window (I am using Win XP Pro) but all it shows is the other .eps files. There are .tiff files there but not recognized.

Select TIFF in the file-type drop-down (or at least make sure you have All
    Formats selected there)

What I finally did was start all over again by deleteing and reinstalling Illustrator. This has fixed the problem.
