If you like it, why don't you try it? It won't hurt;-)

A while ago i used amaroK to access a windows-server. amaroK kept crashing
when accessing the samba-shares. So I moved the server to ubuntu.

XMMS doesnt appear to work however rhythembox works cool, would love a
winamp style player to work over a network though, rhythembox is a bit
    bulky.....

is there anyway to get XMMS to work over a network

    TIA

I am new to linux also. But I have had luck with VLC over a
network. I believe it works in linux. The only bummer is
that it only plays one file at a time (no playlists). I have yet to
figure out how to play more than one.

    Cheers,

Umm, try the 'View' option on the main menu bar. first entry is 'Playlist'

    :-)
