Please evaluate my Project
For my MSc in Multimedia project I am developing a 3D surgery simulation
centre for othtopaedic surgeons and physiotherapists. I have developed a few
models in 3D max an manipulated them in Director MX 2004. The models I have
developed are: Knee structure Knee Flex Knee Injury Knee surgery. All models
are variations on the base knee model, which is viewable at My project
supervisor has said that mode is required from my project, some 'WOW' factor.
Can anyone suggest something in Director can be implemented, that would be out
of the ordinary, that would add some new functionality to these models. In
short, my creativity is over and I need suggestions on where the models can go
from here. If you have suggestions, or wish to make a comment please view

Mark.

395 Entries in this newsgroup? Where is the Rest?
Hi out there!
I got access to that newsgroup and wondered a bit about just
395 messages?
Can someone tell me how I can access all other messages? Is
there an archiv-server or something?
Ciao,

pretty cool!
if i had to make a suggestion, it would be to turn off the tool tip naming the bones when a user chooses to hide bones.

Is there any way to make the knee bend/rotate? Perhaps hilighting which
tendons restrict movement?

Re: Please evaluate my Project
Hi and thanks for posting replies. I have created the knee flex animation in 3d
max and I will import this into director as soon as I get around to it. I am
also modelling the operation to the knee. Neither of these are available on the
website yet. Has anyone used a pressure sensitive mouse? One idea is to
change the mouse pointer to a surgeons scalpol and change the sensitivity on
the mouse depending on whether the use is cutting tissue or bone.

Re: Please evaluate my Project
Is there a way to halt the knee spinning? Trying to read multilayered moving
pixel wide rollovers is not fun :)
What about a spinLeft spinRight button with the knee stationary as default?
Or the knee rotates if the pointer is to the left or the right of the model,
but slows to a halt if the pointer is over the knee?
Nice model by the way.
Cheers

Re: Please evaluate my Project
I don't know what your supervisor is looking for as a "WOW" factor. I generally
think it is better if a page or site fulfills its purpose rather than trying to
impress. It appears that "The Knee" page is the only page that is complete, so
it is a little hard to tell if the site will convey all the information that it
should.
Looking at just "The Knee" page, I think it might be too simplistic for the
audience which you defined as, orthopedic surgeons and physiotherapists. The
model and rollovers show the structure of the knee and the names of the parts.
I hope that an orthopedic surgeon knows the structure of the knee and the names
of the parts. I suppose that a physiotherapist would know that as well. If I
was an orthopedic surgeon I would want information about things I didn't
already know (i.e. what to do in certain unusual cases, what new techniques
other surgeons were using, research about what techniques worked well in what
situations, etc.). A physiotherapist might want similar information about what
therapy worked well in what kind of cases.
Since you have put in a lot of work on this site, my thoughts don't help you
much. At this point, I would think about redefining your audience if that is
acceptable for this project. Who needs the kind of information that your are
presenting? I don't know, possibly medical students, people studying to become
physiotherapists, coaches and trainers, people who may need knee surgery.
Another question is what functionality you could add to the site. Right now I
can watch the model move and I can find the names of the parts. There isn't
much difference between this rotating 3D model and an animated video. If I were
a student, learning about the knee, I might like to be able to control the
model. I might like to be able to zoom in to see some details. I might like to
be able to turn the model so that I could see it from different angles.
I think the page has a good, clean layout. There is, however, a problem for
people not using Internet Explorer as their browser. The "ACL Injury Survey"
results box runs over the other text on the page when using Windows Firefox,
Mac Safari, Mac Firefox, Mac Netscape, and Mac Opera.
