Please Help Netinfo Manager Accident - Mac Applications & Software

Hello, I'm a complete mac newbie. Just picked up a 17" iMac running os-x (10.2.3). Anyway, my first step was to try to network it with an older SGI (IRIX) machine and attempt to cross mount the disks vis nfs. I was able to view the SGI disks (exportd using automount) on the iMac. However, instead of a machine name, I see the IP address. I read somewhere that I needed to use Netinfo Manager in order to add the SGI machine (instead of to /etc/hosts ... I didn't figure out dns yet). While attempting to do that I managed ...

Default Please Help Netinfo Manager Accident

    Hello,

I'm a complete mac newbie. Just picked up a 17" iMac running os-x
(10.2.3). Anyway, my first step was to try to network it with an
older SGI (IRIX) machine and attempt to cross mount the disks vis nfs.

I was able to view the SGI disks (exportd using automount) on the
iMac. However, instead of a machine name, I see the IP address. I
read somewhere that I needed to use Netinfo Manager in order to add
the SGI machine (instead of to /etc/hosts ... I didn't figure out dns
    yet).

While attempting to do that I managed to Delete the Property
"machines" from the top level list. There had been two entries that
existed (one for the local machine and another ... something listed as
    route perhaps).

Can anyone explain what I need to do to fix this? Undo was greyed
out, so that was no help. How bad is my situaion?

Thanks ... this will teach me to be more careful when I don't know
    what I am doing.

That doesn't give you the "serves ../network" property in broadcasthost,
but you'll probably never notice the difference.

A broadcast address usually ends in .255, so I checked on my home
    machine (thanks, SSH!):

    $ nidump hosts .

    127.0.0.1 localhost
    255.255.255.255 broadcasthost

Or is this different on your machine?

No, I was mistaken. The correct address for broadcasthost is
    255.255.255.255. Sorry for the misinformation.

Thanks for the helpful responses. I have made this change as well.
I would like to make certain that this should not be "serves ../networks" as
    there is a "networks" directory.
