Re: Polapan
That is red rag, John.
For snap-shooting? Possibly.
For many more serious purposes? Not so fast!

Re: Polapan
John as you know I agree with you after all, and I think Ann will go along with me on this…"film is dead, long live film!"
I'll have to look up Polapan…yes they still seem to make it I use black and white Polaroid but it is not called PolaPan but it seems to still be available.
John remember this is one of the reasons film won't die as the desire to accomplish what you can in a flash with film based photography that would take many trips to many forums to discover that you should buy the film shoot with it and don't knock yourself silly just so you can say you have a digital work flow!
And if tell anyone that you are actually try to reproduce some digitally that you can achieve a hundred times easier with the old method but want to use the new method because you will save time with the new method even though the old method is easier and faster and better, well they might think you are crazy! Certainly ridiculous!
Won't you think?

Re: Polapan
Actually I still shoot film with my RZ and Arca-Swiss 4x5. I was only giving you a hard time and it will be a sad day when film is gone...hope not for years to come.
I think the Polapan Scottie was mentioning was Polaroid's 35mm roll film that had beautiful colorful grain - had the look of that old 3M film only finer. Help me Wade - was the 3M film 1000 ASA and it's name?
Anyway Polapan had the Pointalist look...but it was recently discontinued.

Re: Polapan
I have a feeling that the name "Polapan" was also used for the medium-format packs at one time?

Re: Polapan
That is correct and I noticed the black and white medium format stuff is still available.
3M film was called…hey I don't know! Never used it.
Oh wait a second it was made by GAF…they used to be a client maybe I designed a promo for the film I will have to look, I know I did for their X-Ray film. I did work for the film division.
Wow, that was a long time ago!

Re: Polapan
On the 35mm. Polapan CT and Polachrome, the back side of the slide was easy recognizable, mirror-like and very easy to scratch.
The image was just a bit more contrasty than "normal".
I still have the AutoProcessor.
(haven't used it in 15 years : )
