Pop-out Menu Appear delay, NOT disappear - Macromedia Fireworks

Hello- Anyone know how I can make the pop-out menu DELAY on APPEARING. Right now when the user hovers over the menu item the pop-out menu immediately appears. I've had a few people ask that there be a small delay (2s - possibly). Anyone know how I can accomplish this? I'm still new to the underlying programming of these events so I'm not sure what I need to look for in the mm_menu.js file or in the javascript in the header of the page. Default Pop-out Menu Appear delay, NOT disappear

    Hello-

    Anyone know how I can make the pop-out menu DELAY on APPEARING.

    I made the menu through Fireworks MX and haven't found an option for an Appearance delay and I've looked at the Behaviors for the menu through DW and haven't found an option under (OnMouseOver).

    Any help would be appreciated, or a simply "Nope can't be done" would also help.

    :)

    You can adjust the time it takes them to disappear, but as far as I
    know, the time in which they first appear cannot be adjusted.

    Leilanie:

    I believe you can adjust the delay before opening but you many not want to
    after reading the rest of this post.

    You will have continuing problems with the page you linked for the following
    reasons -

    1. You have used the DW/FW pop-up menus in the first place. Which sounding
    irresistably attractive, they are a bear from the get-go and will require
    you to go places you may not want to go. If you want the gory details I'd
    be happy to provide them. I can never recommend that anyone use these
    menus.
    2. The DW/FW menus are built from dynamically written layers (this is code
    that is written to the page *after* it has been fetched by the browser, but
    before it is rendered). A layer is an absolutely positioned <div> tag, and
    one rule of thumb when working with any absolutely positioned page element
    is that you should not put them into tables. Yet, you have called the
    javascript that builds the menus from within a table cell -

    <td width="18%" height="612" align="left" valign="top">

    (don't worry - it's a common problem, and it's easily fixed)

    The solution is to remove this line of code - <script
    language="JavaScript1.2">mmLoadMenus();</script> - from the table cell and
    paste it back on the page immediately under the <body> tag, e.g.,

    <script language="JavaScript1.2">mmLoadMenus();</script>
    <table width="85%" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"
    bgcolor="#FFFFFF">

    3. In addition to these two problems, there are other minor issues that
    could crop up from time to time -

    * The page has no valid Doctype declaration and as a result, all browsers
    are going to render the page's code in quirks mode. This is not such a
    problem on this particular page, but quirks mode rendering (in general) is
    variable from one browser/platform combination to another. It's much better
    for consistent layout to build pages that browsers can render in some
    defined standards mode. You do this by inserting a valid Doctype at the top
    of the page. You can read more about Doctypes and what they mean/do at
    http://www.w3.org.

    * The page contains invalid HTML - you have used table heights in your
    layout scheme and this table attribute has never been a part of the HTML
    specifications.

    <table width="85%" height="0"

    (I am still worrying about a table with height zero!)

    * Your primary presentational styling tool has been the <font> tag, and
    this is not only adding a fair amount of weight to your page, but it's also
    a deprecated usage. It would be much better to eliminate them and add some
    CSS control to your text content.

    * You have a number of unquoted attributes (the only way I know of to get
    this is to save a page from Internet Explorer and then begin adding code to
    it in DW. IE can render these unquoted attributes, but other browsers may
    not be able to -

    <img src="http://counter.digits.com/wc/-c/0/-d/5/uf_physics_counter"
    align=middle
    width=52 height=15 border=1 hspace=2 vspace=1>

    The requirement of HTML 4 is that all attributes should be contained in
    double quotes.

    Sorry I couldn't answer your original question, however....

    Actually, as I have already linked a css stylesheet to these pages, I made the adjustments to the font tags and I removed the height attributes (didn't seem to cause any problems).

    I added the DOCtype. I realize it was missing because I think when I imported orginally from Fireworks the DOCtype wasn't there and I wasn't aware of the true necessity of it. Of course if I had imported into a basic DW blank page it would have already been there.. but alas, not even I am perfect.. although I always claim I am *grin*

    Anyway, I appreciate your suggestions, it helps me tremendously to get this stuff to work.

    Thanks

    You're welcome - wish I coulda answered your original question, though. But
    of course, now that you are not using those menus anymore, it's academic,
    right?

    Here's how I do those menus all day long and with none of the associated
    problems -

    Well, as much as you would love that I not use the menus I have currently made, I can't in all good conscience alter the site dramatically/asthetically(sp?) AGAIN at this point considering I just put all the faculty in a tizzy about this new look.

    They've been fighting me on a dynamic look for two years and I've finally got the upperhand and made them see the light, that text based pages are boring and not efficient, especially with the amount of information that they need to navigate through.

    So I have looked at the alternatives (your URL's) and will keep it in mind.

    Thanks for the help!

    By the way, you do know that your site will not be spidered, right (it may
    not matter)? In addition, those menus don't meet accessiblity guidelines.

    And further, if you move or rename a single linked file, every menu on every
    page will break and need to be fixed manually, unless you externalize that
    huge bolus of js that is written to each page.

    But it seems sadly academic at this point.

    At the risk of sounding defensive.

    I appreciate your "nit-picking" of my design and helpful commentary.

    But your last post was almost to the point of rude and snide.

    Thanks again for your input, but please refrain from anymore commentary.

    That was not my intention.

    The elements I mentioned are true and are the very ones that are usually
    overlooked by everyone electing to use those menus.
