pop-up menu variable heights

I have a pop-up menu and some of the items are very long. I've found I can
insert a break to wrap the line but then I have to change the height which
makes the other, shorter items, in the list swim in the extra height.

Is there a way to set the height so it's truely automatic, adjusting height
for each item in the pop-menu as necessary rather than one set height that
gets applied to every item?
