Popup menu function not working-no, I don't want to useand additional extension.
Hi, I browsed this forum and noticed that everytime somebody's asking about the
"Show pop-up menu" behaviour staying grey or not working the question doesn't
get answered. Instead, there's always the answer that the user should some
other tool.
I feel the the build-in behaviour is good enough for me, so would somebody
like to answer the question on WHY the behaviour stays grey? I'm trying to add
it to the <a> tag for an <img> object. I ran the 7.01 updater, if that
matters...
Thanks in advance!
To Murray *TMM*: No, I don't want to use that external extension.

That's misguided. If you do feel this way then you haven't looked at it
carefully enough.Try to find another person here who agrees with this....

Re: Popup menu function not working-no, I don't want touse and additional extension.
I believe you when you say that your option might be better and when my
knowledge of DW is progressing I will have look into other
extensions/behaviours. I'd like to learn the basics first and move on from
there.
The popup menu behaviour is not working and there's no apparent reason why it
shouldn't.
So is anybody willing to explain this to me (and other forum users who posted
similar questions)? Thanks!

Re: Popup menu function not working-no, I don't want to use and additional extension.
Believe me when I tell you that struggling with this menu will not teach you
the basics. It will only teach you not to use the menu system again. There
are much better ways (heck, you don't even need to use a single extension to
build one) to make these menus, and there are much better ways to learn the
basics.
Look - create a new page and put some text on your page - say "link"
Then drag a layer on your page. In this layer insert a 3 row, 1 column
table. In each successive row of the table, enter "link1", then "link2",
then "link3". With the cursor in one of those cells, click on the <div>
that you see on the Quick Tag Selector, and use the arrow keys to position
this div (Layer) underneath the word "link". Now, with the layer still
selected, use the property inspector to HIDE the layer by selecting
visibility: Hidden.
Now select the word "link", and enter "#" in the link field of the Property
inspector. This makes it a 'null link' so that you can now apply a
show-hide layer behavior to it, to SHOW the layer you previously hid.
This is all there is to a pop-up menu. Why you need the agony of the DW/FW
menu systems is beyond me.
The only problem you will have with the method I described is how to hide
the submenu after you have shown it - and there are several good and easy
ways to do that....

Re: Popup menu function not working-no, I don't want touse and additional extension.
Oh man, would someone please just answer the question. Pleeeease. I've used it
in earlier versions with great satisfaction. I've paid for this great program
and like to experience all these great functions is has to offer. If I just
wanted to pinch code I'd be using notepad.
Aren't these forums about answering questions? or just enforcing opinions?
It's now obvious I'm not the only one who would really like to see this
question answered.
Anyone?

Re: Popup menu function not working-no, I don't want touse and additional extension.
You're absolutely right Herbshirt. Whatever great alternative there is for the
Show Popup Menu function, first of all I also just want to know why a function
that should be working is NOT working.
Although I will try the alternative provided by Murray and finally being able
to finish of my menu (this already took me longer then designing the website in
Photoshop) and start building the website.
Meanwhile, maybe somewhere in 2014 somebody will have uncovered this apparent
dark secret by infiltrating the Dreamweaver-dungeons and share it with the rest
of the world...

Hi,
These forums are not support forums, they are user-to-user. Since
Macromedia licensed that menu code and is shipping it with Dreamweaver,
you should be able to contact Macromedia directly and, as a paying
customer, receive technical support. These forums are manned by
volunteers.

Re: Popup menu function not working-no, I don't want to use and additional extension.
Or maybe contact Netscape (if the person who wrote the code in 1997 is still
there)....
