I think your site is gorgeous, and I usually hate everything. A couple
of things that typically would have annoyed me, but but you managed to
pull off:
1. Having to mouseover the whole page just to find any button at all,
let alone the one I'm specifically looking for. I don't mind mousing
over your little spheres at all because a.) your main categories are
logically organized and easily identifiable, and b.) I was not (and I
don't think anyone would be) looking for one specific piece of art in
your portfolio. If I had been, I probably would have gotten annoyed
with having to mouseover little dots to find it, but since those
categories are designed for browsing anyway, it works out fine.
2. Finally finding the right button and then having to sit through an
animation before I can actually see what I came for in the first place.
Most of your animations were so charming and mesmerizing that I
wasn't sent scurrying for that "skip animation" button that I always
seek out, but rarely find. However, when I did look for the magical
button (I didn't care for the interactive animations, and a few others
were just too long for my short attention span) I was pleasantly
surprised to find that you had included one. Also, I didn't notice this
until I had already looked at most of your site, but the "Turn Off
Animations" button is brilliant!
So, I think you've got a great site. It's logically laid-out,
aesthetically pleasing, and unobtrusively "flashy." Professional and
cool. I'd hire you.

Hi Dan,
I like it a lot. Very crisp look and feel, with easy navigation. I think you found a nice line between eye candy and functionality (the ability to switch off the animations is a neat touch, too). There's some great work in your folio, too.
The staggered loading at the start made the initial wait feel pretty smooth, even on my modem line.
WinXP Pro/IE 6.0/512 Ram/56k modem
Cheers,

Thanks very much. I'm glad to hear from a from someone on PC with 56K. That's one configuration I've got no easy access to for testing. Thanks a bunch for the kind feedback,

Re:portfolio site check - lotsa feedback please
hey dan,
great site... lots of really cool ideas there... as you said yes, the animations are a little annoying, but it's a great touch allowing the user to switch them off...
i love the color scheme too... you seem to have gotten that combination of grey and orange that looks crap everytime i try to use it...
great work! it's really cool...
jonic.
