PostFix newbie question... - Mac Networking

Hi, I've set up PostFix and a mailserver on a dynamic IP'ed 10.3.3 machine (using a dyndns.org account) and can successfully send and receive email. So far so good. I used PostFix enabler and configured it to use the "OS X built-in user accounts." My question is: How do I set up another email address on the mailserver - I've been looking on Google but don't understand the terminology used in the results. Do I need to edit /etc/postfix/aliases? For example, with the built-in user account, I have com and I want to add an account com How do I ...

    Default PostFix newbie question...

    Hi,

I've set up PostFix and a mailserver on a dynamic IP'ed 10.3.3 machine
(using a dyndns.org account) and can successfully send and receive
email. So far so good. I used PostFix enabler and configured it to use
the "OS X built-in user accounts."

    My question is:

How do I set up another email address on the mailserver - I've been
looking on Google but don't understand the terminology used in the
results. Do I need to edit /etc/postfix/aliases?

For example, with the built-in user account, I have

    com

and I want to add an account

    com

    How do I do it?

    Thanks,

    hc

You should only need to edit main.cf to tell it where to look for the
    aliases, for instance, I have:

    alias_maps = netinfo:/aliases

In either the aliases file or netinfo:/aliases, depending on how you set it
    up, you need to have:
    marylamb: hughchal

does this send email addressed to com TO com,
or is maylamb a NEW account?

I want a completely new, independent, stand-alone, unique and separate
account for my significant other to correspond with whomever she
corresponds with, on a physically different machine...

    Thanks,

Each user on the system has one mailspool, so if you want marylamb and
hughchal to have different mailspools then they need to point to different
    accounts.

If it's a different physical system, then you can probably do some canonical
remapping (or possibly even get away with it in aliases, I've never tried):

    marylamb: xyz.com

Then the mail will just get delivered to the other machine (which clearly
should have postfix running). However it may be easier to set up a local
UNIX account on your existing mail system for marylamb, then just set her
machine up to leach her e-mail from that (using e.g. fetchmail).
