Powerbook as a Server? - Mac Networking

    Default Powerbook as a Server?

A friend made a passing comment about attending a meeting where someone was
using a Mac PowerBook as a server. Everyone at the meeting who had a laptop
    was able to participate.

I can understand about connecting everyone using ethernet hubs, but don't you
need server software? Would you need a router as well, or does a server handle
    that function?

Mac OS X includes a router. In the "Sharing" System Preferences, you
    can enable Internet Sharing.

My wife has attended meetings where someone connects to the internet via
dial-up or an ethernet connection in the hotel, and then enables
Internet Sharing on their Mac that allows all the other WiFi enabled
computers in the room to share the connection.

What kind of server? Web? ftp? File? Tea?

OS X includes web, ftp and ssl server software. I use ftp to transfer
files between my Macs and my PCs every day.
