    Default Powerbook G4 Bench Marks

    Hi All,

I am thinking of upgrading my Prismo and getting a G4 powerbook.

I have been looking for benchmarks of the processors to compare versus
price. Are there any real world results for numerical work, not
    commerical application like photoshop.

I am interested in numerical work on the Powerbook using C code. I am
not interested in graphical performance, nor screen size as I will
work primarily with emacs. I only need 256 Mb RAM and minimal I/O
    performance.

I am interested is the extra money for the L3 cache is worth it in
performance? Simulations on my mathematical models take around 8.5
hours on my Prismo with Mac Os X 10.2.6. So I hope to drop this to
    4 hours.

I like the Powerbooks as I can work on the program when I am
travelling. Since I travel alot so small size 12.1 inch is good.

Are there still heat problems with 12.1?

I know I have alot of trade offs, so some performance figures will
    help.

    Thanks

    Stuart

Prismo Stuie? Is that a Pismo with buggered colour convergence?

I'd reckon your best bet would be to bludge a G4 and try your own code
    on it.
If you could make the altivec processor do some of the work, you'll
find the G4 will whoop the Pismo.
