Print area has no relation to paper or printer selected?
Using Illustrator 10.
Printer is a Canon W6200 wide format printer.
Media is 20'x24" roll.
Ok so i set my art board to be 600(h)x1000(w)mm Landscape which is the size of the poster I am creating.
In print set-up i set the Printer to Canon Large Format W6200PG paper size 20'x24" paper type roll.
Now when I go to my art board there are the familiar dotted printer guide lines but it is a box 609.6x346.428mm in the bottom right of my art board. I thought maybe because i'm using a roll the print guides couldn't show 20' so I created my poster on the artboard - but when i print only the portion within the print guide prints.
What am I doing wrong please anyone? i'm sure it's something simple i've missed.
Thanks.
Rob..

I don't think you can make a 20 foot Illustrator document. Many people who use design highway signs make them to scale and enlarge them at the print stage. Maybe your document could be 2.4" tall and 24" wide, and you could print at 1000%.

Re: Print area has no relation to paper or printer selected?
20' is just the length of the paper roll in the printer.
My document is a more modest 600x1000mm but i can't print it cos illustrator won't give me that as a print area, even though it would easily fit on the paper?

Re: Print area has no relation to paper or printer selected?
I checked it out, and the maximum heighth and width for an Illustrator 10 document is p16,383, which comes out to about 227.5 inches, 5,779.5mm, or just under 19 feet.
Anyway, 600mm x 1,000mm is well within the Illustrator size limit. The suggestion I have may not be possible, because it is more of a printer driver thing, rather than an Illustator thing. If you go to File>Document Setup, Artboard will probably be selected in the top left pulldown. Under that is size, units and a checkbox for "use page setup." Make sure that box is checked, then hit the page setup button on the bottom right.
Depending on what printer driver and PPDs you are using, you may have (from top left down) a pulldown to select the printer, and below that a pulldown that reads "page attributes." If you click that second pulldown, you can switch page attributes to Custom Page Default. This will allow you to create a new page size and margins for all four sides. You have to enter amounts for height, width, top margin, bottom, left and right, then name the new page size and hit the add button.
After you hit OK, it will take you back to the document setup window. Click the page setup button again, and under paper size, select the new page size you just created, and hit OK twice.
You should now have a document and margin set up for your custom page. It will probably be different, depending on your setup, but poke around there for a while, and you may hit on the right combination.
