Print Drivers with the Adobe PDF Printer
I've noticed there's a couple of ways to set up a PDF-generating printer. One is to print everything to the "Adobe PDF" printer. The other is to use another printer, in my case the "HP Color DeskJet PS" and assign it to a PDF port. This actually prints much more reliably, perhaps because the HP print driver is so tuned. But I haven't really seen any Adobe recommendation on this...

The recommendation would definitely NOT be to do this.
It may be worth looking at your reliability issues in more details, if
you want to post them.
