Print file size to big
Hi, I have an HP Laserjet 4600, Word 2003, Acrobat 6.0 Standard. I have created a file in word, with text and images and converted it to .pdf, file size is 520Kb. No problem. But when I try to print the file size shows as over 80Mb in the printer seetings. (Start-Printers and Faxes-printer options). Is there anything that can be set in the file to reduce this. I have created files from Excel with no issue.
Thanks
Mark

Re: Print file size to big
That is not unusual. Leave the file and it should print.

Re: Print file size to big
You're seeing the size of the printer spool file, which is going to be entirely dependent upon the printer you're printing to. It may be 80MB for you, but if I print the same document on a different printer, my print spool size may be larger or smaller.
Factors include:
- The resolution of the printer
- The printer language used by the printer (PostScript? PCL 5e? ECP/2?)
- Whether or not the printer supports color
- Whether the printer processes vector calculations on the printer or on the host
- How many of the fonts need to be downloaded to the printer
80mb is pretty small for a full-color 8.5x11 document printed at 300 dpi.

Re: Print file size to big
Thanks for the help. Although I can leave it for 20 mins and it still doesn't print. Similiar sized files seem to print in a matter os seconds?
Thanks

Re: Print file size to big
sounds like a false correlation then. The spool job size is not what's causing your print jobs to fail.
- Are you getting any errors?
- Do ANY PDFs print (i.e. the help file)?
- Can you print your PDFs to a different printer?

Re: Print file size to big
Can you print as image? Are you already printing as image (which could explain the gargantuan file size)?

Re: Print file size to big
Do you have any background images or transparencies in the file?

See what happens when you get rid of it.
