Default Print Outline Box Illogical Problem

I'm using Illustrator 10.0.3. I have two printers hooked up, a plain HP Laserjet 6L and a gigantic color laser copier Canon CLC 900. I'm trying to print stuff on regular legal sized paper.

When I make the page setup to fit the HP, the bounding box is fine for the printable area. It shows up as two rectangles, one inside the other. I'm assuming that the larger one is supposed to fit exactly with the artboard, while the smaller one is supposed to be the bounding box of the print outline.

However, when I set the page to print to the Canon, the print bounding box shifts off the artboard. Not only that, but I get the two rectangles, similar to above, but they OVERLAP. The smaller one is slightly outside the larger one. So when I choose the default print setup (without moving the bounding box around with the page tool), the smaller box is right off the artboard since the larger box fits perfectly with the artboard. How does this make sense? Is this just a glitch, perhaps with the Canon printer drivers?

If I shift the bounding box around with the page, I can fit it in the artboard, but it's innacurrate. Illustrator should be able to fit the bounding box to the artbox perfectly, as per the printer drivers, otherwise each new document will be inconsistent.

I'm really stuck on this one here. The print bounding box being outside of the artboard size doesn't make any sense to me, so I'm wondering if any others have the same problem.

    Please help!

    Jeff:

Double-click on the page-tool, which is paired with the hand-tool. That should place the printable area on the art board exactly where it needs to be.

Normally that work, yes, but in this case, my print bounding box is outside of my artboard. If I double-click the page tool, my print bounding box doesn't fit on the page, it's slightly off to the right (I'm doing landscape).

    Jeff,

I'd suspect the Cannon printer driver.
