Default print to pdf doesn't work. queue in the print center stopped

    hi,

have a huge problem with printing a pdf. when i'm in illustrator for example and choose to print a simple page to pdf, it moves the file into the queue, but sometimes instead of opening distiller (in the background) and processing the files, it stopps the queue. no error, nothing, the file just won't print even after manually restarting the queue.

i'm working on mac os x 10.4.8 and have all the latest updates from adobe installed. the problem occures only sometimes, but i couldn't find out exactly when. restarting the print center, illustrator or my whole computer not necessarily temporarily solved the problem.

    any help is greatly appreciated!

    regards,
    eric.

    Eric,

First thing, it is better to save to pdf you will loose much less
information that is contained within your file. Second, if you still
want to go the pdf printer route. Delete the printer instance, then go
the Acrobat and have it detect and repair the installation. Finally,
repair permissions. That should do it for most people. If that fails,
see what happens if you try it as a different user.

    hi mike,

thanks for the advice to use 'save as ...' instead of 'print'. i'll do that whenevery i have documents that need to be printed. the 'print'-version is available in every program though, not only in adobe cs, that's why i'd like to use it ...

deleted the printer and added it again in the print center. is that what you ment with: 'Delete the printer instance, then go the Acrobat and have it detect and repair the installation'? i didn't get the part 'then go the Acrobat' ... i think there are a few words missing there. :)

    best regards,
    eric.

    Eric,

I meant that after you delete the printer, go to Acrobat, under the
Help menu, there is a detect and repair option. Choose that.

There is an advantage to the save as pdf. It preserves transparency,
    layers, etc.
