Printer marks not showing up in Acrobat
I have a brochure that I'm saving out to PDF from Illy CS. It has a 1/8" full bleed, so I am checking all printer marks in the options and setting the bleed to 1/8". However, when I open the PDF in Acrobat 6 (pro), none of these marks are shown, it just shows the 8 1/2" x 11" area. Will the marks only show if there is a postscript printer installed? I don't need them for anything, but when I send the file to the printer, I want to make sure they have what's needed.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Printer marks not showing up in Acrobat
You are using object>crop area>make to define the image which in turns sets the crop box of the pdf. If a crop box area is set, this is what is displayed in Acrobat.
When saving to pdf, use the pdf dialog crops and bleed to add crop marks and to set the bleed box. Use crop area>make to define what you want users to see when initially opening the pdf in Acrobat.
If you are printing to pdf, make sure the page size you are printing to is large enough to contain the crop marks.

Re: Printer marks not showing up in Acrobat
Richard,
You will need to set your media to be large enough to incorporate the
printers marks

Re: Printer marks not showing up in Acrobat
Releasing the crops did the trick. Thanks! On the topic, one more quick question. If the printer is accessing the file in Illustrator, is there any harm in using the "Make Crop" action in the original AI or EPS file, or is it better to add the cut marks "manually"? I am providing PDF, AI and EPS v.8 to make sure they have what they need and want to make sure all 3 options show the cut marks, and the appropriate bleed.
Thanks for the prompt replies!

Re: Printer marks not showing up in Acrobat
I am not familiar wih the MAKE CROP action. (unless you mean filter>create>trim marks) It should not cause a problem though.
Backsaving can cause problems if you used any of the newer features.
If you can print separations correctly to Acrobat, (from each of the format you provide) then your files should be fine.

Re: Printer marks not showing up in Acrobat
Here's another solution. If you're using Save As ... pdf, you must select a "Standard" (e.g. "PDF/X-4:2007").
If the Standard is "None" (unhelpfully, the default for most presets), the printer's marks don't show. Period. Who knows why (just another lovable Illustrator quirk).Unregistered Guest

Re: Printer marks not showing up in Acrobat
BIG THANKS to the person who posted about chaning "Standard" in Illustrator - that was the only thing that worked for me.
