Printer Problems - SCO

    Default Printer Problems

I have transferred a customer from an old SCO 5.0.5 server (the hardware is
over 5 years old) to a new box running SCO 5.0.6. I have been successful at
transferring the software and data to the new system and the customer is
running well. During the parallel testing, I was able to connect the
Okidata dot-matrix printer to the parallel port of the server and set it up
to work with the application. I have now moved the server to the original
location and I can't reach with the parallel cable anymore. Instead, the
same Okidata printer was setup on the old server using COM1 (3F8h & IRQ4).
I have setup the printer with the same parameters on the new box and I can't
get it to print. In fact, when I am in SCOAdmin and managing the printer, I
go into "Printer Controls" and I get an error and can't see anything related
    to the printer. Any ideas?

    Thank you,

    Joe,
Setting up the old box for ?network printing? is fun too but extension
parallel cables work well. You can get quite some yardage out of them.
Are you using parallel or serial printing?
Clip any old network print plug on to the oki and set it up in the host
file and the scoadmin printer file as well. You probably have to install
network print services and for that matter just talk them into an HP 2200dn
or something. They're so darn cheap.

This is not a network print issue. The old server is being retired and the
Okidata is being setup on the serial port of the new server - using the same
cable and plug that was working on the old server when it was shut down.

And is the OKI set correctly?

    From http://aplawrence.com/Unixart/printers.html

Okidata serial printers require DSR Invalid when using 3 wire xon/xoff flow control. Set this on the printer, using the front panel menus. The printer will not print with 3 wire (2-3-7) setups without this. If you've wired for hardware flow control, you don't need this, but if you are using xon-xoff you might as well do this anyway.
