Printing a dot pattern
I am using Illustrator 9 with Windows XP. I have a document that has a screened rectangle and when I go to print color separations I cannot get a dot pattern on the screen. I have changed the frequency to 85 and the angle to 45 and still have no luck. Is there somewhere else that I should be changing the dot pattern?

When you talk about "screens", it's not clear to me what type of screen you're talking about...
a screened rectangle
Does this mean a halftone, as in less than 100% of a color?
I cannot get a dot pattern on the screen
Does this mean your monitor? You will NOT see the halftone screens of a color separation on the screen, only upon printout. You can make halftone screens show up by using a filter, but normally you should not see dots on screen.

Why don't you just create a rider file?

Re: Printing a dot pattern
I'm not looking for a dot pattern on the screen. I need it on my printout so that we can shoot a plate. It is a screened rectangle.

Re: Printing a dot pattern
Try searching the knowledge base for information on using "Rider files". I think that might help you. If you have any trouble, come back and ask.

Re: Printing a dot pattern
You shouldn't have any problem with making a plate. But Illustrator won't preview the dot pattern. That is a function of your printer or image setter.

Re: Printing a dot pattern
Hi Timothy,
Tried working with the riders. When I print a composite I have a nice dot pattern but when I print the color sep's there is no dot pattern.
